Dr. Ioannis Livieratos
Dr. Ioannis Livieratos

Studied (BSc/MSc) Agriculture/ Crop Production/ Protection in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1991) and Wageningen Agriculture University (1994). He elucidated the nucleotide sequence of the whitefly-transmitted Cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus bipartite genome (PhD, Imperial College, 1999). Following a 4 years post-doctoral period (UCDavis, Imperial College), he serves as the Studies & Research Coordinator of the Department of Sustainable Agriculture (CIHEAM/ MAICh; 2005-today). During this period, more than 25 national and EU-funded projects have been accomplished. The research lines of his lab include: plant pathogen diagnosis, molecular plant-virus interactions and essential virus elements for infection / replication. He has served as a member of the Editorial Board of the journal of Molecular Plant Pathology and has authored more than 35 articles on (Molecular) Plant Pathology and other fields on Sustainable Agriculture (H index: 18; IF >80; citations ~1050).

Research Associate (Responsible for the Laboratory of Soil Science)

Mr. Georgios Prekatsakis
Mrs. Anna Houdalaki

Studied at the Agricultural University of Athens (2004, Department of Crop Science) specialized at the faculty of pomology and viticulture. Obtained his MSc from the Wageningen University of Netherlands (2007, Department of Plant Sciences- specialization Organic Plant Production, Laboratory of Entomology). His research was on the processes that shape the defensive potential of plants in a multitrophic context. Moreover he has a teaching competence from the University of Crete (2016, Pedagogical Depertment). As an agronomist worked for more than 9 years as a technical advisor for the Agricultural Cooperative of Gramvousa regarding fertilization and plant protection of greenhouse and leafy vegetables , onion ,olive trees and vineyards and as a responsible agronomist for the development and the function of the “Olive Oil and Table Olives Producers Organization EU funded project”. He works also on his mixed organic farm (Cultivation of various citrus and avocado varieties, olive trees along with cover crops and vegetables). In 2023 he started working as Manager of the Laboratory of Soil Science and Plant Diagnostics at the Mediterranean Institute of Chania (MAICH) offering consultancy to farmers and students.
