Innovative, mobile spectral mapping device for the in situ early detection of vegetable crops diseases

April 2020 - April 2023

SpectraPlant

The subject of this project is the development of a smart "spectral mapping" device for the detection of early phytopathological symptoms of horticultural crops, in conditions of abiotic and biotic stress. The portable "camera-spectral mapping"device will incorporate the most advanced technologies of hyperspectral imaging, mechanical learning and artificial intelligence. Through this camera the diagnosis will be made completely automatically and without taking a sample from the plant. In other words, the hand-held device to be developed will be a "laboratory in the field", and will introduce a new method of "spectral phenotype" in biotics and abiotic stresses in horticultural products of great economic importance for Crete.
