Scientific Writing on GIS/RS case studies

Aims

The aim of this course is twofold: to get the students exposed to different environmental applications of GIS and Remote Sensing (first three days) to teach the students basic skills of scientific writing in the fields of GIS and Remote Sensing (next five days)

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of 'Remote Sensing' and 'GIS' theory. In addition, basic skills in image processing and GIS analysis.

Learning Outcomes

- to get the students acquainted with different modern applications of GIS and Remote Sensing - to get the students realise the huge potential of the intergrated use of GIS and Remote Sensing in environmental monitoring and management - the students to be in position to write short scientific papers (essays) by combining technical knowledge and scientific writing skills

Coursework And Assignment Details

The first part of the course (3 days) consists of morning and afternoon sessions. During the morning sessions modern applications of GIS and Remote Sensing are presented to the students. During the afternoon sessions the students refresh their image analysis through practical classes. The second part of the course (5 days) consists of small projects that are assigned to the students; each student gets a different project that needs to be completed by the end of the course. The whole process is closely supervised by the professor in order for the students to be in position to deliver high quality essays at the end of the course.
