Memorandum of understanding between CIHEAM MAI.Chania & RUTGERS, The State University of New Jersey, USA

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania - Greece (CIHEAM MAI.Chania), constituent organ of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, represented by its Director, Prof. Dr. Georgios Baourakis, and Dr. Barbara A. Lee, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of ‘’Rudgers’’, The State University of New Jersey, USA signed a memorandum valid for 5 years, as a gesture of goodwill between the two universities, which may see the development of links in the areas of:

  1. Exchange of students for a given period through a recognized exchange program
  2. Exchange of faculty members of the universities
  3. Exchange of documentation and research material
  4. Coordination in joint or collaborative research projects
  5. Cooperation in efforts to commercialize technologies developed at the two universities or their partners in ways that are mutually beneficial
  6. Development of a joint or dual degree program

The first mutual agreement is to organize a Summer School at the M.A.I.Ch. premises with the title: ‘’Exploring the roots of Mediterranean Diet in the Island of Crete’’ during the year of 2017. The particular Summer School will involve a series of academic lectures under the frame of the Department of Kinesiology and Health of Rutgers University and will focus on Food Quality & Diet with emphasis on the Cretan and Mediterranean Diet.
